Discover Merano and the Dornerhof
Indulgence. Recreation. Nature.
Unique in every season.
With 300 days of sunshine a year and a fascinating landscape between snow-capped peaks and palm trees, Merano has something to offer for everyone: whether it’s an active holiday with hiking, cycling or skiing, sightseeing in the historic town or a relaxing dolce far niente.
Spring
We love spring! Nature is coming back to life and things are getting really colourful again at the Dornerhof! The first signs of spring appear in the cut flower garden and the apple blossom in April is an experience every year.
Enjoy the warming spring sunshine on hikes along the numerous Waalweg trails or on beautiful cycle tours. Visit the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle or stroll along Sissis Path into the historic centre of Merano. Numerous museums, well-kept promenades and cosy squares are waiting to be discovered. The shops in the medieval Via Portici and the colourful markets are perfect for a shopping spree.
Or you can enjoy the spring sunshine on our roof terrace and recharge your batteries.
Summer
In summer, we already harvest the first fruits of our labour: The sweet cherries are ripe at the beginning of June and with the main harvest of our apples in August, there is a lot of life on the farm.
Now it’s really pleasant high up in the mountains. Become a summiteer and climb the mountain peaks in Merano and environs. You can reach beautiful alpine pastures on family-friendly walking trails. In just a few minutes by car, you can reach numerous cable cars that will transport you to another world in no time at all. A visit to one of the many swimming pools in Merano and environs is also a great way to cool off. In June, the international street art festival AsphaltArt captivates visitors of all ages.
If you like, you can simply relax in the shade of the trees in our garden.
Autumn
In autumn, the highlight at the Dornerhof is the grape harvest. The juicy grapes are harvested by hand and then taken to the winery. The last apples are also waiting to be harvested. With the dahlias the flower garden becomes really colourful once again.
Everything is possible in autumn. Hikes are great fun both high up in the mountains and down in the valley. And you can also enjoy the autumn landscape while cycling. In South Tyrol, now is the time for special culinary delights. Regional specialities, roasted chestnuts and good wine are served at the so-called Törggelen.
Or take a short stroll around the Dornerhof and discover the bright colours of autumn.
Winter
Winter is the quietest time of the year for us at the Dornerhof. Our main task is the winter pruning of our orchards and vineyards. Otherwise, nature goes into hibernation.
But it’s certainly not boring in Merano! Winter sports beckon with all their facets. The cable car to the Merano 2000 ski area, which offers opportunities for skiing, sledding or winter hiking, is just a few minutes away from the Dornerhof. Snowshoe hikes in the snow-covered mountains or a round on the ice rink are also great fun in winter. Relax in the warm waters of the Merano thermal baths. During the Advent season, the Christmas markets in Merano and the surrounding villages attract many visitors.
Make yourself comfortable with a hot cup of tea in our holiday appartments and enjoy the quiet season.
